RESEARCH GOALS AND INTERESTS
I am interested in continuing research in the area of reproductive behavior and endocrinology in avian species.

RESEARCH AND RELATED EXPERIENCE
Faculty Research Assistant, University of Maryland, College Park, MD – Sept. 1998 to present
Developing and conducting experiments on the reproductive and maintenance behavior of domestic fowl. Collection and analysis of behavioral data, image analysis of morphology, development of fecal testosterone and corticosterone RIA, and histological analysis of the perivitelline layer of ovum. Helping with concurrent projects on the behavior of both domestic fowl and of ostriches at the University of Maryland poultry farm facility.

Graduate Researcher, University of Maryland, College Park, MD – May 1996 to Aug. 1998
Examined the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on GnRH and on reproductive behavior in Japanese quail. Involved egg manipulation, quail husbandry, necropsy, and GnRH extraction for ELISA. Additional experience includes RIA, cryostat tissue sectioning, and immunocytochemistry.

Clerical assistant for the Associate Dean of the College Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Resource Assistant, Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown, MA – Jun. 1993 to Aug. 1993
Monitored piping plover nest sties and least tern colonies, maintained daily records of the nesting pairs and chicks; nest sites were mapped manually and by GPS. Provided information to vacationers concerning endangered species protection.

Assistant Laboratory Analyst, Hazelton Environmental Services, Madison, WI – Sept. 1993 to Apr. 1994
Prepared water, soil, and tissue samples for metals analysis, and assisted with data analysis.

Laboratory Assistant, Psychoneuroendocrinology Department, VA Hospital, Madison, WI – May 1992 to Aug. 1992
Conducted RIA’s for quantification of stress-induced hormones, prepared HPLC solutions, and assisted with data analysis.

Laboratory and Office Assistant, Wisconsin Occupational Health Lab, Madison, WI – May 1989 to Mar. 1992
Responsibilities included general office procedures, client communication, and sample preparation.
