A FAQ for POP users: |
| WAM Home Page | WAM How-to Page |
The intented audience of this faq is current POP users. POP (post office protocal) is a protocal for receiving email used by programs such as Eudora and Netscape to retrieve mail onto the local machine. A complete description of POP is beyond the scope of this FAQ. More information about POP is available:
From MAILER-DAEMON Tue Dec 9 20:23:09 1997 Date: Tue, 9 Dec 1997 20:23:09 -0500 (EST) From: Mail System Internal DataSubject: DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA X-IMAP: 0881712644 0000000010 Status: RO This text is part of the internal format of your mail folder, and is not a real message. It is created automatically by the mail system software. If deleted, important folder data will be lost, and it will be re-created with the data reset to initial values.
In December '97 a new POP server was put in place on WAM and Glue servers. This message is used by the POP server to reduce the workload of the server and it should not be deleted.
If you set "keep mail on server" and remove that one message, then your entire spool will be downloaded again. Otherwise only unseen messages will get "pop'ed" over.
If you do not use the "keep mail on server" flag, then the message is an annoyance when using those POP clients that do not know how to deal with it.
