Buying Soccer Gear

Problem Statement

A soccer equipment distributer wants to create a website where all of their customers can quote the prices of their gear online, regardless of their order size and amount of different items, that also updates in real time
This would be especially helpful for teams on a budget, who need to see exactly how much they can stretch their dollar before they consider ordering
Want to give give a 5% discount to someone who orders a quantity thats between 16 and 31 of certain items, as in a purchase for just a soccer team of between 16 and 31 players
Also, want to give a 12% discount to someone who is ordering a quantity thats 32 and over items, as in a soccer club sonsisting of at least 2 soccer teams of at least 16 players each
The soccer equipment distributor can do this by placing a Java Spreadsheet Applet directly on the website, that lists the items that can be purchased, the unit prices of each item, and the conditional discounts associated with the quantities ordered
In the space on the spreadsheet under quantity, the customer can input the number of items they want, and the spreadsheet will calculate the final prices based on the formulas the distributor used when creating the spreadsheet, and then the total price from the sum of the final prices for each item

Spreadsheet Analysis

Instructions for Spreadsheet:
- Under "Quantity," enter the amount of each item you wish to purchase
- A 5% discount will be added if your ordering more than 15 itmes, and a 12% discount will be added if your ordering more than 31 items, which coincide with team and club orders, respectively
- Some items, such as the soccer cleats on the spreadsheet, can still be ordered, but are not usually ordered in bulk and so are not given any discounts regardless of the amount ordered

Interpretation

The total is the total amount of money that this order would cost if placed
If a team or club had a budget, they could easily use this applet to play around with different quantities and combinations of items in order to get an order that satisfies the needs of their team and is within their budget
The fact that items that aren't discounted are still on the spread sheet accounts for the fact that the person placing the order may still need other soccer gear when making the order
