Problem Statement: Efficient Snow Removal in Prince Georges County, MD

You’re in charge of laying out the salt/sand locations where snowplows replenish their supply. See Help for “Network Analyst: Finding a service area”. You have 5 facilities to locate anywhere within Prince Georges county. Locate the facilities with the following objectives:

• Each facility should serve a comparable area within the county
• Overlap between the areas served by each facility should be minimum
• Service areas should be as small as possible
• All roads in the county must be served

After the methods/tools are developed for this task, each group member should take a turn independently trying to accomplish the above tasks. Develop a table to compare the performance of each group member’s suggested facility locations. Also compare these results to a hypothetical ideal as defined by the above criteria. Your “deliverables” will be scripts/tools you used to accomplish this task, and one point theme for each group member showing their facility locations. (Assume road length is the criterion for defining the area served by each salt/sand facility.)
