BUYER BEWARE - JEEP PROBLEMS - WE NEED YOUR HELP !!

We purchased a new 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, it's been
nothing but problems. It's been in the shop for many problems. Our
main concern is the transfer case, it's been in the shop 5 times for
this problem. They have rotated/swapped the tires 3 times, adjusted
the wheel stops, and even replaced the transfer case linkage parts, and
it still isn't corrected. There is a MAJOR problem with the
select-trac transfer case, and we feel there may be some type of cover
up. We worked our way to the District Manger and took him for a test
drive, we were able to duplicate every problem (i.e. stuck in part-time,
loud bang/pop in front or rear end).

The District Manger claimed it was uneven tire wear, and had them swap
the left front and rear tires, after we had just paid $21.00 a few days
earlier because they said the problem was caused by the tires, and they
needed to be rotated.

We then asked them to go with us and take a comparable Jeep for a
test drive. They found a 1997 with select-trac, that 1997 Jeep would
not even go into full-time, it was like an elastic effect, it kept
flipping back up to part-time. My husband finally managed to get it to
go in full-time 4WD, but when he tried going back to 2WD, it got stuck
in part-time, just like our Jeep. There went the uneven tire theory,
this jeep only had 120 miles on it. We are getting the run around now,
they claim this is normal, but we are finding out from others locally
and on the Internet, this is NOT NORMAL.

My husbands friend bought a 1996 just like ours, and about the
same time. We have about the same mileage and tire wear, they have
NEVER had to make it lunge or jump to complete the transfer case shift.
Other's have told me of the exact same problems with their select-trac,
and how the dealerships had to finally buy it back, because they could
NOT repair it.

Buyer Beware, we were nearly in an accident because the shift
selector and the indicator lights showed we were in 2WD, but when making
a turn it bucked and bounced and we nearly hit a car sitting at the stop
sign. This vehicle is not only unsafe, but what damage is it doing
being stuck in part-time?

Now we must ask your HELP !! Not only for us, but for others out
there. If you could PLEASE give this message the widest dissemination
possible, it may save others from the same mess, or prevent someone from
getting seriously hurt. If each of you could send this message to
someone you know, or think may be able to help, we would appreciate it
very much. This may help to resolve this problem or at least get
someone to listen to our frustrations of paying $31,500.00 for a
vehicle, and how many problems it's had in just 13,000 miles, and how
unsafe an undependable it is. Your help would be greatly appreciated by
ALL of us :)
