Subject: Chrylser Transmissions
To: bgluckman@yahoo.com
I have a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager that at 64k miles developed a problem with
the transmission. I took it to our local dealer who did an analysis. They concluded
that from thier computers, the trannsmission had numerous internal leaks and that I
would need a new transmission. Since I was out of warranty the cost would be about
$1,850.00.
I asked "what would cause this to happen after 64k miles ?" and the guy at the service
counter gave me such a run around I left feeling so infuriated I immediately started
looking online for other people with this probelm. I found another website 'Car Cast
Auto Clubhouse' that had a message board and got this Phone # at Chrysler to call
( 800-992-1997 also on your website).
The next day we called Chrysler. My wife explained the problem and that we expected
the transmission a LOT longer than 64k miles. Chrysler then called the dealership to
get their 'opinion' of the problem and the overall condition of the car. Chrysler
then made an offer to pay for 1/2 the cost of a new transmission. We then got the
work done and ended up paying $850. to the dealership. With that we only get a 12
month 12,000 mile warranty.
I have posted this to a couple of other website boards. I have also passed this
on to a few other people that I know. However, they have not been as 'lucky' as I
have. Chrysler does not seem to want to help unless you contact them before the
work gets done and/or the work is done somewhere else other than Chrysler. I
hope my story is some inspiration that you can get some restitution from
Chrysler if you try.
