We also own a '92 Dodge Caravan with ABS brake problems for sometime. We
have complained about the ABS brakes for sometime and the 2 or 3 dealers we
took it to told us we were crazy. Until about 2 months ago when the brakes
totally failed and my wife almost got into an accident that the dealer
finally admitted that there is an ABS problem. They had the car for 3 weeks
because there were no parts available. When we got the car back the ABS
would still not engage and a neighborhood mechanic could not find any repairs
were made consistent with what the dealer told us was a complete replacement
of the ABS system. 3 weeks ago we had brake problems again and are told
again that the ABS is at fault. Chrysler refused to allow parts to be
ordered and the ar has been laid up for the last 3 weeks in the dealership.
Today I was advised that Chrysler will replace parts (I have a Chrysler
extended warranty (thank God) but it may be a week or more before the car can
be repaired. Chrysler does not care about its customers and is doing all it
can do to hide the problem with the ABS brakes. As soon as I get the car out
of the shop I am selling the stupid thing and getting a car manufactured by
another car company because Chrysler does not care about its customers or its
products and the dealers are so bad that it is inpossible to deal with them.
Just try calling the 800 number for dealer and product complaints; you get
the biggest run-around that you have ever seen. Neither the dealerships nor
the company will stand behind its products and the product is not worth the
trouble, sell it! ...and then they tell you to "buy American"...
Subj: Brake warning light

I just wanted to register my experience with a 1992 Grand Caravan. I had ABS
lights going on for months and after several times at the dealership they
finally "solved the problem." However, several months later the Brake
warning light started going on, instead. I have had the vehicle into the
dealership at least 5 times. Whenever the light is on and I step on the
brake I hear a rattling sound under the hood - like a pump is working.
The dealer says they have to deal with an engineer consultant - and can't
make any decisions by themselves. Is there any hope?
I should also mention that I have had a transmission failure, too. It seems
like the dealership tries to find non-warranty items to repair - as if they
will correct the brake/abs problem. They found that my rotors were pitted
and told me that was causing the brake/ABS problem. So, I had to end up
replacing the rotors because they were so pitted that they couldn't simply be
ground down. Does this make sense? Is it possible that the ABS problem
caused the rotors to pit?
I feel like I have entered into the twilight zone with this vehicle. Any
ideas?
Subj: 92 Voyager Problems

Our Voyager has had a myriad of problems. The brakes went out completely at
30,000 miles, the rear view mirror fell off, the driver's seat does not lock
into position and last the car overheats when it goes up the hill. The
overheating problem was checked out by a Chrysler dealer and we were told
there were no problems. The car died on the freeway (not great when you have
four kids all under the age of 5 in the car). We think it is the radiator or
thermostat. We have no leaking and the levels of fluids when checked
previously were ok. ANY SUGGESTIONS (suggest to my husband we get a new NON
AMERICAN MADE mini-van)?
