I've seen several postings about the CC minivans with the ABS problems. I
had (until Chrysler recently bought it back) a 92 Plymouth Grand Voyager LE
that had the top dollar repair cost $3,454.60 plus tax) in the country.
When the system failed, my wife twice was unable to stop and entered two
separate intersections. After looking at the van, the dealership had the
nerve to accuse me of pouring some type of petroleum product into the
system. They based that on the way the fluid appeared. They said I caused
the problem therefore they would not cover the repairs. I convinced them
to have two samples of the brake fluid (one drawn by them and one by me)
tested at a lab and that we would assign responsibility by the results.
You guessed it, No contamination!! They fixed it but it took four weeks of
fighting with them to keep them from backing away from their original
repair estimates in an attempt to make minimal repairs.
This is of course the super short version of the story. It was four of the
most frustrating weeks of my life. This dealership told me that they had
never even heard of problems like this. It was only after I began
networking with other people from around the country that I found out they
had another van with the same problem the week before mine arrived. I was
so angry with them and fed up with their arrogance that I had the van towed
to another dealership to have the work done.
The ABS problem was just the tip of a very large iceburg. Componant
failures, electrical failures and glitches, constant alignment problems,
paint de-lamination, multible battery replacements, wheel problems,
multible radio replacements, engine controller failure and on and on.
I guess if there was a good thing about having a Plymouth van it was that
it made a perfect bookend for my other Chrysler product. A 1988 Dodge
Dakota. 90,000 miles and it's on its third automatic transmission and
second rear end.
If you own one of these vans please be careful! If you notice anything
unusual with your brakes, if your ABS warning light ever comes on or if you
hear a loud buzzing from the engine area don't drive the vehicle. Get it
checked out and be prepared for a major headache to go along with your
brake problem.
