I have had plenty of expensive Bendix-10 ABS trouble, and have spoken with
Chrysler, AAA, and my insurance company about this. All responded with
equal indifference. The voice I eventually get to talk with at my
insurance company spouts the party line, i.e., the insurance industry
encourages the automobile manufacturers to install anti-lock brakes for
reasons of safety. After I listen to that stuff, and then point out that
the poor reliability of anti-lock brakes makes them a safety hazard, the
voice promises to take up my concern with a superior and call me back, but
they never call back. I've been through the same conversation and same
non-response three times now. It's no surprise to me that the insurance
industry has decided not to give discounts any longer for anti-lock brakes
because they are probably losing a bundle paying off claims due to failed
anti-lock systems. I was hopeful that the insurance companies would stick
up for the consumer and take a position that would coerce Chrysler and the
others to fix their anti-lock systems properly. Instead they've taken the
cowards way out and the consumer is left holding the bag. Maybe the next
step is to give discounts for cars that have conventional braking sytems.
The insurance industry ought to have the spine to advise customers not to
purchase cars with anti-lock systems. I was also hoping that AAA would
take a stance in support of the consumer but no such luck. Silence from
AAA as well. Doesn't say much for any of these organizations!
