I own a 1997 Sebring LXI and am looking for other 97 sebring owners who have
experienced their steering wheel and frontend shimmy/vibrate at highway speeds
of 65-and increase in shimmy as speed increases on smooth roads. After
purchasing this type car owners need to drive it on a smooth stretch of
highway. Our cars vibration got worse after the wheels were balanced,
usually routine at 3,000 miles, but we got it done earlier because we were
going on a trip. The dealer has balanced the cars tires 6 times and
confirmed the problem but now is hiding behind Chrysler since the Chrysler
reps say its a a "Characteristic" of the car. Weve test drove 4 new Sebrings
and they have the same shimmy, like when we first bought it, but we feel this
is not right and are looking to see or alert other 1997 Sebring LXI owners of
this. Since these cars came out in November 96 we feel Chrysler is going to
start to get complaints after owners go in for a routine tire balance.

My name is Joyce Armstrong. I have had nothing but trouble with my 1997
Sebring JX since I bought it. The problems range from the power windows'
leaking water from every crevice to constant vibration (including smooth
road). Like Carolyn Wright, I too was told that there was nothing wrong
with the car... "That's the cars personality." I also drove another
Sebring, only to find that it too vibrated like mine. Unlike Caroyln,
I did not have the wheels aligned, the vibration just started at about
2,500 miles. The Sebring has serious problems if all of these cars drive
like this; this car is dangerous and requires two hands on the wheel at
all times (the steering Wheel Vibrates). I would like anyone else having
this problem to contact me or Carolyn (I have left a phone message for
Carolyn). Maybe Chrylser will believe the masses! I can be reached at
(215) 579-4723 or E-mailed at PARMSTRO@VOICENET.COM.
Any assistance will be appreciated.
