All Time Top Ten Games EVER list *BY DISC*
BY Merle Zimmermann "Nanaki-kun"
Since there might be games added at any
moment, no numbers so far (hehe). These games are in sections, so there is an
RPGish section, a racingish section, that sort of thing. also there is a
combined skill section and a hack section (for all those multiplatform games
that didn't turn out super super lame like they sometimes do.
TV Storybook Section
These games all have a big story illustrated with
lots of cutscenes. They might be traditional RPG type, where you have a party
and battles, or a solo game, or survival horror, or racing. But they all have
the story as the main cool thing about the game (aside from the killer
gameplay).
- GB: Final Fantasy Adventure a.k.a. Secret of Mana Zero - This game was the
reason that I sold my gameboy and all my games back to the store and quit
playing videogames at all for six months, because it made it really obvious
how meaningless most of them were.
- PSX: Final Fantasy VII (Final Fantasy 7) Disc 1 - Even though the graphics
are not as advanced as they might be, this game is actually really cool,
especially the first disc.
- PSX: Final Fantasy IX (Final Fantasy 9) Disc 1 - The characters and
graphics in this game were totally awesome. I would rank it about FF7 Disc 1
except the disc is actually a lot shorter and they had an extra five years or
so to learn from their mistakes (SEE FINAL FANTASY VIII bluuh : P).
- SNES: Zelda-Link to the Past
- NES: Crystalis (SNK) -- I actually have a funny story about this game-ask
me about it sometime.
- PSX: Metal Gear Solid - This game isn't really an RPG like most of the
other games, but it is really cool anyway. There are SO many cutscenes,
though.
- PSX: Final Fantasy VII Disc 3
- PSX: Final Fantasy VII Disc 2
- NES: Megaman 2
- PSX2: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - This game had some translation
issues, I think. And Vamp was really weird. At least the menu lets you turn
most of the blood off (except for the texturemapped blood). Did I mention Vamp
was really weird? AND DOES HE NOT look and sound EXACTLY like the guy who
appears in the Cowboy Bebop movie? Who is this guy? What's his real name?
- Xbox: Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance - This upgraded version wasn't as good
as the playstation version for some reason. I heard rumors that it was
released too soon for the development team to get it to run at a solid 30fps
(and sometimes it really grinds during the cutscenes). The added section on VR
missions is nice, though. But WHY did Konami cancel the website three weeks
before I finished the game the first time :( WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ?
Interesting Trivia: I finally recognized the voice actor for Shadow in the
USA version of Sonic Adventure 2: It's the guy from the Manga dub of Tokyo
Revelation, this adult horror anime that I saw online once-upon-a-time at
Sputnik7.com. IMHO He is much cooler as Shadow.
Racing Games
Here are games where the main character is pretty much a car, so you just
drive around to play.
- PSX: NAMCO's Ridge Racer 4
This game is so sweet!! Arcade style racing at a breakneck pace, I like it so much!
But I didn't like the sequel for PS2, which was odd :( I think it might have been
because I didn't understand the pressure sensitive button system..
- PSX/PC: EA's Need For Speed: High Stakes
Racing for pink slips never tasted so good!! OMG this game has awesome graphics but
I think it only runs at about 15fps on Playstation. Even though it grinds a lot you
must try it because the force feedback experience is amazing with the Dual Shock
controller. You can feel the individual sidewalk tiles as you are driving across
them! This game isn't as arcade style as R4, but it is still cool to play even with
the extra realism.
- XBOX/PS2/GC: Wreckless, the Yakuza Missions.
This game was pretty cool, but should have been cooler by all rights. It is nice as
a graphics demo though, and although it isn't exactly about driving (it's more like
Chase HQ or Rage Racer those games where you race to crash into things) it is like
driving and is fun.
- PSX/PC: Driver: It's A Crime.
This game was like GTA except it was more about the
driving. It is fun to play a little, and the driving is good, but it suffers from a
timer that really keeps you from enjoying the scenery. The same is true of Wreckless
A lot of people liked Gran Turismo, including my little brother, but I didn't
really like it, so I am not going to mention it here, since it was SO SLOW UUNNNGGGH
Shooter Games
I'm making another list of games of this type, but here are a few that I think are
cool until I get it posted and put a link over to it.
- XBOX/PC/Mac: Halo (but it's best on XBOX due to the co-op mode and the fact that
you don't need to buy $400 worth of hardware upgrades to play, you only need to buy
a $100 X-Box)
- PC: Half-Life
- PC: Unreal Tournament
- PC/PS2/Mac: Red Faction (this game was a little rough around the edges but it
has grown on me a lot in the last few weeks)
Retro Games
Of course, there are gazillions of lists of games that are old but good, but I of
course have to make my own list too. All of these games work on gear that was made
before 1995. And of course there are a lot of insanely awesome games that I have
left out because I am in a hurry to get this done before my class starts again.
- PC: Warcraft
- PC: Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0
- Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog 2/3/Sonic and Knuckles
- NES: Tetris
- NES: Megaman 2
Odd Games
These games are weird, but I thought they were good on their own so I made a list of
them. Just because something is lower on the list doesn't necessarily mean that it
isn't a good game. It only means that I maybe thought of it after thinking of the
other games, so it wasn't as top on my brain today. Also there are some games that
I didn't list (a.k.a. Galerians, for example) since they were already in lists above.
But I think all these games were cool so don't like judge them yourself without
having a chance to try them out.
- PSX: Trap Gunner, Atlus Software
This game is sort of like the old Spy VS Spy game on NES, only it's a 3d from above
match to the death or time out on a board made up of square tiles that can have ramps,
bridges, hills, and stuff in them. It's a good action game, and fun to play with a
friend, even if they aren't very good (there is an awesome handicap system, so you can
move the settings around so both of you must fight your hardest to win).
- X-Box: Blinx-The Timesweeper
The cat sees the princess hit the pig, and then has to go rescue her!! Omg the fur
shaders on the cat in this game make it look even cuter than it would if it were
just a polygon set. The game is cool and good for ADD people since the levels are
pretty short and it saves after each one. There is a time limit like Sonic, so you
have to finish in 10min anyway.
- PS2/PC/Mac (but it can't be bought anymore, apparently): Oni
This is a cool anime-style game where you can both fight, shoot, and run around and
jump. I guess it isn't really odd except for being SO COOL OGM ;D The demo is
still around for PC and Macintosh, so you can try it out. There are lots of ways
to play the demo, so you can make your own challege when you play it. If you got
the PC version be sure to get the extra levels pack and install it; one of the
greatest sliding icons that I have ever seen in my life appears in Stage 2 (which
is in the extra pack for PC).
- PS/PS2/GBA: Klonoa Series
This is a weird platformer where the characters make talking noises, but it is
just like mumbling or something strange. The game is really cool though; I am still
trying to find the first one for Playstation.. *had the demo*
- PS2: Ico
This is a puzzle game from Sony. You have to lead the girl to safety with your
little horned boy character. It is quite odd, but beautiful in its graphics. These
weird shadows try to take the girl away and make the game say "GAME OVER," so you
have to be alert when you leave her to try to solve some puzzles with switches and
blocks and things. Also, you can carry a bomb into the chandelier room from outside
after you go down the spiral stairs which are hidden outside the front of the TV
with the camera angle the game uses.
(I was stuck for an hour trying to figure it out after the chandelier fell).

- NES: Roadblasters - This was the first game that I ever finished. I
remember playing it on my apple ][e monitor in green and black. Mild
expletive, that was cool. This was the first game I finished by myself. I went
through all of the last stages in one long winning streak, it was amazing.
- NES: NARC - I beat this in 2P mode with Frank. This was the first game I
finished cooperatively with a friend.
- PC: Pool of Radiance - Ok, it was on MAC, and I didn't really beat it. But
I figured out how to use this macro software to level up my multiclass
characters all the way by going into the arena and casting Sleep on the other
wizard. It was pretty sweet IMHO. But after that I didn't play through the
rest of the scenerio because the computer broke. :( So I basically beat the
game, although I didn't technically finish it.
- GB: Zelda: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. I remember finishing
this game on my gameboy original before I got the Final Fantasy games on
Playstation.
- GB: Final Fantasy Adventure
- GB: Final Fantasy Legend (1)
- NES: M.U.L.E.
- NES: Rampage

- GB: Pokemon Red
- N64:Pokemon Snap
- SG: Sonic 2 (with Sonic and Tails)
- NES: Megaman 2
- PSX: Ridge Racer Type 4 (this is the best arcade racer ever. support for
it was built into my DNA; I beat it 45 minutes after unwrapping my brother's
Christmas present for me.) And before that, I played the demo OVER and OVER
until I placed #1. It's possible ;)
- N64: Super Smash Brothers
- N64: Gauntlet Legends "WIZARD IS ABOUT TO DIE ...!" I got to the last last
boss but then didn't finish because I was too sleepy (played all in one sitting).
- Xbox: Halo: In every difficulty and game mode setting + blitzed the game
in Legendary with one of my totally all-around awesome friends.
- N64: Starfox 64
- PC/PS2/Mac: Oni (Level 1 only) I totally own the first level of the demo
version on PC and MAC. Wow what a demo.
- PSX: Galerians (played it on my computer emulator since I didn't have my
playstation set up at the time).
- PSX: Metal Gear Solid WITH CHEATS (finally got the disc out again. Cheated
a bit to skip ahead to where my save file was from, but didn't REALLY REALLY
use the cheats much after that [Except for the Helicopter Fight ;D ])
- GBA: Sonic Advance (with Tails and Sonic and Tails)
- PS2: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (just about 12 hours in Normal
mode) (2003 mid Nov)
- Xbox: Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (about 4 hours 15 minutes in Very Easy
mode) (2003 Nov.29)
- Xbox: Enter the Matrix

- PS1: Project Horned Owl//Sony Lightgun game (January 3, 2004)
- PC/PS2: Red Faction, this cool
game with GEO-MOD. (April 15, 2004 omg I didn't owe taxes this year YAAY :D)
- GBA: Sonic Advance 2 (with Tails): OMG playing this every day
on the bus with Tails was awesome. But Tails doesn't get story cutscenes
like Sonic T__T ... ... :(
