My research interest focuses on the application of optimization techniques in the transportation system, in particular the optimization based on simulation models. My dissertation topic will be ''the optimization of long-term and short-term decisions in highway maintenance activities''.

I am working in several projects that examine the following topical areas:
*Optimization of freeway work zone decisions through microscopic simulation; 
*Simulation-based study on a Lane-based signal system for merge control at freeway work zones;
*Application of parallel computing in simulation-based optimization of improvement projects scheduling for inland waterway;
*Development of a detailed lock operation model for the Navigation System Simulation (Nass) Model;
*A Multi -Objective Bi-level Approach to Highway Alignment Optimization.
