Mizuhara Makoto is a just normal high school student until he, his friends (Nanami, Fujisawa sensei) and his "ultimate rival" (?) Jinnai got "sucked" into an Arabic-looking world got El Hazard. Unfortunately, Makoto looks too similar to a princess in El Hazard who got kidnapped. So Makoto has to "replace" the princess; this marks the beginning of the adventures of Makoto in this mysterious world.
The story is fairly good and very funny. Sometimes I found anime done by AIC too funny, but the plot is weak; but this is not true of El Hazard OAV. The characters are also fairly well developed (Fujisawa sensei kicks butt!!!).
AIC's character design is usually good (for those who is familiar with Tenchi). El Hazard OAV is not an exception. Animation is also pretty good.
Voice acting quality is a little bit inconsistent sometimes. Everybody who watched El Hazard (both TV and OAV) will remember Jinnai's "famous" laugh. But I personally don't like Fatora's voice acting.
Highly recommended. A good place to start for newbies in anime, since it is neither too cute (i.e. Card Captor Sakura, Pretty Sammy) nor too violent (i.e. Ninja Scroll, Kite).
