Grandia

Basic Info :-

Platform : Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation

Genre : Role Playing Game

Release Date : 1998 (SS), 1999 (PS)

Developer : Game Arts

Introduction :

Grandia was probably one of the most anticipated game in Sega Saturn. And it takes 4-5 years for the development of the game.

Grandia was RPG centered around the main character Justice. It starts of Justice' desire to follow his father footstep as an adventurer by going to the "New World".

I have never played the PS version. This review will be based on the SS version of the game.

Review :

Story : 4/5

Without giving away the story, I am not really pleased by the sudden change of story line about mid-way in the game. But in general, it is OK. Characters are fairly well developed, and the story can be pretty humorous.

Game Play : 4.5/5

The game got a pretty good battle system. It is semi-real time battle which movement of characters are determined by how fast the character is.

The 3D map can be choppy sometimes, but I will not regard it is a major problem. And the inventory system in the game is good.

Graphics : 4.5/5

The CG are good in this game. Movies run fairly smooth, and the character design is fairly well done.

Conclusion : 4.5/5

Grandia does live up to its hype. It is probably the best game ever made for the SS, but it is unfortunate the game come out fairly late (in terms of SS's "career").
