If there is one thing that can really cause confusion in the game, it will be the dress code during dates. The case is further complicated further for non-Japanese speakers as they might not understand what the name of the clothes meant.
Here is a general guide how should you dress during dates in TM3, and I hope it can help desperate gamers...
There are 4 unique ways the girls will respond on how you dress:
1) They like it.
2) They are indifferent.
3) They do not like it, but will not terminate the date.
4) They will terminate the date.
Response 1-3 will lead to the continuation of the date, and Response 4... You know what I mean. It seems the better response you get, the more effective the date will be (i.e. better improvement of relationship)/
Certain combination of clothes usually works, but keep in mind that you should never keep on using one combination over and over again. If I give tuna salad sandwich to you eat everyday, I do not think you will like it. Same applies to clothes. You also do not walk around with T-shirt during winter when it is 30 degrees F (or 0 degree C)... Girl's taste of clothes is season dependent.
Known generic combinations... (in Shift-JIS encoding)
くろぶち眼鏡 (Black/Sun Glasses) (Optional) + 背広・上 (Suit upper body) + 背広・下 (Suit trousers) + 男物革靴 (Leather shoes)
None + 無地のT･シャツ (Plain White/Black T-Shirt) + 男物ジーンズ (Jeans) + 男物スニーカー (Sneaker)
None + カジュアルシャツ (Causal Shirt) + 男物綿パンツ･黒 (Cotton Pants) + 男物スニーカー (Sneaker)
Individual girls will have individual tastes, I will get that in a moment.
There are 4 ways to get new clothes.
1) Mail order (after watching TV Infomercials)
2) Winning it during summer festival at the shrine
3) Make your own
4) Christmas/Birthday Present
5) "Digging"
Mail order is easy... Put your cursor into "mouse mode" (by pressing L2), and "click" (using the O botton) on the TV. Watch the infomercial and call the mail order company using the Phone/Date command.
You can win a leather jacket, bandana, pink rouge and a diamond ring during the summer festival. You should always play the Frog game if you want to have any hope to win any expensive items.
The hobby command now gives you the opportunity to make or "dig" clothes out. If you want to make your own clothes, you need to buy hand crafts magazines (手芸カタログ), fashion magazine (ファッションカタログ) and hand craft tools (手芸道具) first. Digging will give you certain items that can be used for dressing; you got have your own Miyuki Alien Doll now! ;-)
Other girls may give you birthday presents (that are clothes), and you may also win clothes if you go to X'mas party. The stuff that other people will give you are always within the list of clothes you can make with the hobby command.
Girl tastes change with season, and certain girls will "keep track" how many times you wear the same clothes during date.
Known tastes of girls:
Chitose and Rika like people wearing glasses. May be Chitose you may look cool with black glasses, or Rika likes people who looks like nerds.
Hotaru and Kazumi does not like people repeating same combinations of clothes over and over again.
