For those who are familiar with Tokimeki Memorial 1, the story is not really new. You basically returned to your hometown (Hibikino which you left 7 years ago) for high school, there you meet different girls including your childhood friend -- Hinomoto Hikari.
In your high school, there is a bell that is malfunctioned for a long time. But this bell has a legend (rather than a tree in Tokimeki Memorial 1) that will bless lovers who declare their love during day of graduation.
The game involves 2 parts : Character development and Dating. The character development part involves taking classes and extra-curricular activity in school. Just like any high school, you got exams, school holidays and sport games (inter-school and inter-class).
The dating part involves dating girls during weekend and holidays. You have 10(+1) girls you can date, there are also 2 girls you cannot date. Please refer to the game manual and other related web sites for further info.
Fundamentally, Tokimeki Memorial 2 is very similar to its predecessor. The game does improve a lot in graphics and story (more events). Sometimes it might get boring, since you will have to go over the same game play for more than 10 times to complete the game completely (i.e. declaring love to all 10 + 3 girls).
The art of this game is very good. All characters (both male and female) are well drawn in Japanese animation style. 3-D graphics are also decent (but definitely not as spectacular as FF8).
This game will cost you a good chuck of time. Could be boring and requires a lot of patience. But this also means this game has a high replay value. The language (being an import Japanese game) can cause problems to some gamers.
Excellent simulation game. It is definitely a worthy successor of the series. Understanding in Japanese is highly recommended in order to play this game.
