Addiction
Sometimes it is really hard for someone to realize that they have a drug abuse issue and when to seek out help from a drug rehab. I think in this society that drugs are too easily accessible and many people are becoming accidentally addicted to prescription drugs, especially these days pain pills. It seems like every week at work, my husband sees people buying or selling pain pills. These people are not hanging out on street corners waiting for their next fix; they are living amongst us, functioning each and every day. Possibly driving the carpool or maybe the class mom who is taking a few extra pills to numb herself and make it through her day?
I think the fact that this is happening so frequently now is saying two clear things about this society that we are living in. The first is that way too much medicine is distributed much too often in this country, and also much too easily dispensed. The second is, so many people are feeling so miserable in the world today, they are looking for a way to feel better and so things that numb or elevate you are the things that people are using.
The problem with this is even though prescribed by a doctor, these pills are no safer for you to live on every day then the street drugs are. They tear apart your insides, especially your stomach and they alter your state of mind. Most people are taking more than the doctor prescribes and saying it under the mask of a prescription. Somehow, if they have a prescription it is all okay. Well, let me tell you from experience that it is not. What seems a quick fix to some problems in your life becomes a new problem for you.
Please don't keep ignoring it. If you need to take those pills to get through everyday, then you need help. It doesn't mean that you are a bad person, but you can just excuse away a drug abuse problem, because the drugs themselves are actually legal. This just makes it more like an alcohol abuse problem that is legal, and yet still troubling and deadly. Don't be embarrassed to find out about drug rehab.
